Thor

Update: 1/05 - A little update on Thor. Last week he had a full blown seizure. We suspected he may have had one right after his eye surgery but we weren't 100% sure; now we know. He's had a physical and all seems to be in order. Right now, we are keeping a close eye on him and monitoring the frequency of seizure activity. We are not going to start him on any medication because he isn't having them often enough to warrant that. Poor guy, unfortunately it is common for white and deaf Danes to also have epilepsy.

He is thriving in his foster home though and coming along beautifully with his training. What a wonderful and super boy he is! His medical bills now have reached about $1700.

Thor will need an experienced big-dog home with a fence because you can't call him back if he is wandering around the yard.  He goes well on leash if using a gentle leader and absolutely loves going out in the car to drop-off and pick-up at school.  He needs regular exercise, like a good swift walk or quick jog because he is still a puppy.  He would also benefit from a home that has a stay-at-home parent or a part-time working adult.  He has been bounced around a lot in his young life because of his disability, so he needs a life-long stable home that will love him as much as he will love you.

Update: 11/20 - Thor is in foster care now and is doing great!  He loves people, is very affectionate and very easy going, and gets along with everybody.  He is non-aggressive and great with other dogs and cats.  Because he is just a one year old his foster family is working through his puppy traits as he is still a little bit mouthy when he has extra energy.  This is easily controlled with a good run around outside, but otherwise his favorite spot is lying upside down on the couch.

He is going to make a great family dog because he is very good with small children, and since he is deaf he won't bark at strange noises and wake up the kids!  His foster family is currently working on sign language for things like "no", "leave it", "come with me" and "sit" and he already gets most of those.  He looks for cues from people because he wants to behave and be a good dog.  He is sharing his foster home with two other dogs and he is learning good behavior from them, like how to keep his head off the table during dinner!

Update: 9/26 - Thor successfully had a de-bulking procedure done on his left eye to remove some excess tissue that was impairing his vision. His vision is about 80-90% of what a normal dog's would be. That, with his lack of hearing, means he will need a home that can work with him on his level. He does exhibit some separation anxiety as well. We are hopeful that the surgery today will restore the majority of the vision he has in his left eye. Poor guy, what vision he did have was almost completely covered by excess tissue.

Thor is super sweet and will require a fenced yard. He will also require another dog in the home to help maintain security.

Thor just turned one. He is super sweet and gentle.  Thor is deaf so he will need a home with a fully fenced yard (no e-fence, sorry no exceptions).  He's new to rescue so stay tuned for updates.
