Update: 01/05 - It really is a "feet" of monumental proportion!!!! Sophie came into rescue (a year ago in August by the way) and wouldn't let ANYONE touch her feet. We had to sedate her for nail clippings. Her foster mother has been working diligently to desensitize her to a dremel tool. Today her foster mother had this to say: I only need mention the word, "toesies", and Sophie Ann now runs into the kitchen and flops down ready for her pedicure. (Nice nails mean squat to her, but beef chunks totally have her attention.) Sophie is wonderfully sweet. She has a difficult time with initial dog introductions. To decrease that stress during placement, we feel it would be best to place her in a home where she is the only dog. She is great with all people, however, we also feel that she would do better in a home with children over 12. Sophie had an extraordinarily difficult start in life and those scars run deep for her. She has done some basic training while in rescue and we would encourage new owners to continue that journey with her. She's worth it! Update: 05/04 - Life is much too short for Sophie to have been in rescue for this long. We don't really know why. So she has an issue with having her nails done. While it's a challenge, it is not insurmountable. Aren't you up for a little spice in your life? The sweetness and devotion she gives as well as the reward of being able to look at her remarkable beauty every day, is a gift in itself. Sweet Sophie Ann is currently attending a few sessions with a trainer at Gail Fishers All Dogs Gym. This is to help her work through some of the "worries" she has over meeting other dogs. She is unsure exactly what is expected of her when greeting fellow canines. We are building up her positive experiences and teaching her how to briefly and appropriately meet other dogs. This is an example of why e-fences aren't always a good thing. When other dogs behind an e-fence charge dogs out for a leisurely stroll with their owners, a pleasant stroll can quickly become a a worrisome experience. Unhappiness behind her, she is one joyful little girl who typically the female, loves seeing herself in the gym's giant mirrors. Touching and handling her feet are no longer a problem, but a pedicure is still terribly frightful. Sophie needs "dog savvy" people in her life who have time/patience to invest and are interested in guiding her through life's new experiences.
Update: 02/06 - Oh Miss Sophie Ann, what a BEAUTY! She is really just a gorgeous dog. Sophie was taken by Animal Control after her owners gave her up. They often forgot to feed Sophie. AABGDR took her, plumped her up, and put her in foster care. Her foster mother is working diligently every day to teach Sophie that pedicures are a good thing! She encourages her with baked chicken breast. She can now at least touch her feet. Sophie is absolutely petrified of having her nails cut. We have tried medication and muzzling and it just isn't worth it. Right now, she wears them down on the pavement as much as she can. Sophie needs a very special home, one with a lot of patience and understanding. She is super sweet and adores her home pack. Update: 12/10 - Sophie has been in rescue for a couple of months and she is ready for her forever home. She's gained weight and is learning to trust people. She's looks gorgeous. She's sweet and playful. Sophie's belly is tacked, she's been spayed, all up to date on shots and looking good! She's very nervous about having her nails done so we are working regularly with her to make that a positive experience. If only we could teach her what it's like to have a true pedi! Move over Duncan Hines, here comes something sweeter! Sophie is a 2yo female fawn that has come into rescue as a result of neglect. Animal Control removed Sophie from her home. Her owners often "forgot" to feed her. She's nervous right now and on the thin side. Sophie will be vetted and will need to wait her evaluation period before she can go to her forever home. She has lived with cats and seems to be ok with dogs. She is new to rescue and currently not available; but stay tuned for updates!
