Arik

Arik is a 4mnth old black Great Dane. He is super sweet! Arik came into rescue because he got sick and it became too challenging for his owners. Arik was unable to walk as a result of HOD.

It's really important that Great Dane puppies be fed a proper diet. Their protein and fat content must be watched until they are 18mnths old.  Right now, he is on holistic kibble that is low in protein and on a variety of medications to manage his discomfort. He is quite comfortable and he's starting to act like a normal puppy.

SophieMove over Duncan Hines, here comes something sweeter! Sophie is a 2yo female fawn that has come into rescue as a result of neglect. Animal Control removed Sophie from her home. Her owners often "forgot" to feed her. She's nervous right now and on the thin side. Sophie will be vetted and will need to wait her evaluation period before she can go to her forever home. She has lived with cats and seems to be ok with dogs.

She is new to rescue and currently not available; but stay tuned for updates!

Update 7/24 -  Abbey has come back into rescue, reactive to dogs. What that means is she barks and behaves poorly when she sees them and she is on leash. This is a problem she had the first time in rescue that we worked long and hard on. We had her able to greet dogs without this level of reaction. So what do we do about this now? We start over. Using a Gentle Leader and starting to work from a distance, we start desensitizing her.

Abbey had a trip to the pet store tonight. With treat in one hand and she in the other, we walked confidently through the store. We went when it wasn't quite so busy. She reacted by barking at first and wanted to get at the other dogs.  Using positive reinforcement and a Gentle Leader, 15 minutes later, her reaction had already deescalated. She was calmer, more confident, and feeling a bit better about herself. Abbey will need a pack leader who will always be that, her leader and someone who is willing to train with her. Continued exposure with positive and confident reinforcement will change her outlook. She did it once before...she will get there again!

Abbey is an amazing dog who is extraordinarily affectionate and  playful. She is a powerhouse in the yard and her favorite game is soccer. She can easily launch 5ft in the air to catch her ball. Stay tuned for updates.
